In my paintings, the familiar circumstances of mundane persons, places and situations are breached by a sense of dis-ease. I try to describe the familiar world of socially constructed narratives as a place of uncanny perceptions where layers of appearance oscillate between dream-like illusions and tangible experience. Rational visual information is intentionally permeated by awkward gestures and perspectival anomalies in order to explore clear delineations between realness and abstraction, reason and emotion, strength and weakness. The continued influence of these binaries on present day Western civilization is taken as a given in my exploration of cultural facade and the ambiguity of what it is to be a human in relation to that facade.
